Bezienswaardigheden / tips 2025:

1) Alma: Alma ligt slechts op 650 meter afstand van het Fundy National Park en vormt tevens de toegangspoort tot het National Park. Je vindt het informatiecentrum van het National Park in Alma, waar je ook verscheidene overnachtingsgelegenheden aantreft. Het toerisme is een belangrijk onderdeel van de lokale economie, de visserij, op kreeft en sint-jakobsschelpen is een andere belangrijke economisch onderdeel van Alma. Ook in Alma zijn de hoogste getijden ter wereld zichtbaar. Alma is een goede uitvalsbasis voor het bezoeken van Fundy National Park en Fundy Trail Provincial Park. Het is klein, biedt accomodatie en voornamelijk visrestaurants. Ben je meer op zoek naar gezelligheid en een variatie van restaurants dan is Saint John of Moncton een alternatief maar je moet wel minstens een uur rijden waardoor de locatie minder aantrekkelijk is. Ben je op zoek naar rust dan is Alma de beste plek om te verblijven. 

2) Fundy National Park: Bezoek het Fundy National Park gelegen op slechts 650 meter van het dorpje Alma. Hier vindt je niet alleen de hoogste getijden ter wereld maar een wandeling door de natuur en het bezichtigen van de watervallen zijn zeer de moeite waard. Het Fundy National Park wordt gelukkig nog niet overlopen door massa toerisme en het is hier nog vrij rustig. Zie de extra informatie over Fundy National Park op mijn website waaraan ik nog werk.

3) Klimaat: Alma heeft een relatief koel, nat zeeklimaat met aanzienlijke seizoensverschillen, ondanks de ligging in de buurt van de oceaan. De zomers zijn warm maar relatief kort, terwijl de winters relatief koud maar milder zijn dan in het binnenland. Ook kan het erg wisselvallig zijn, zo heb je prachtig weer en een uur later is het mistig of donker. Dit is zichtbaar op de foto's en film. 



Highlights / tips 2025:

1) Alma: Alma is located just 2.132 feet (650 meters) from Fundy National Park and is also the gateway to the National Park. You will find the National Park information center in Alma, where you will also find several overnight accommodations. Tourism is an important part of the local economy, fishing for lobster and scallops is also another important economic part of Alma. The highest tides in the world are also visible in Alma. Alma is a good starting point for visiting Fundy National Park and Fundy Trail Provincial Park. It is small, offers accommodation and mainly seafood restaurants. If you are looking for fun and a variety of restaurants, Saint John or Moncton is an alternative, but you have to drive at least an hour, which makes the location less attractive. If you are looking for peace and quiet, Alma is the best place to stay. 
 
2) Fundy National Park: Visit Fundy National Park located just 2.132 feet (650 meters) from the village of Alma. Here you will not only find the highest tides in the world, but a walk through nature and a visit to the waterfalls are very worthwhile. Fortunately, the Fundy National Park is not yet overrun by mass tourism and it is still quite here. 3) Climate: Alma has a relatively cool, wet maritime climate with significant seasonal variations, despite its location near the ocean. The summers are warm but relatively short, while the winters are relatively cold but milder than inland. It can also be very changeable, you have beautiful weather and an hour later it is misty or dark. This is visible in the photos and film.





Alma is een klein vissersdorpje en grenst aan Fundy National Park en is tevens een goede uitvalsbasis voor een bezoek aan Fundy National Park.

Alma is a small fishing village bordering Fundy National Park and is also a good bases for visiting Fundy National Park.





Het is een heel vreemd gezicht om in de haven van de kleine stad Alma, de boten bij eb op de modderige bodem van het leeggelopen havenbekken te zien liggen.

It is a very strange sight to see the boats lying on the muddy bottom of the drained harbor basin at low tide in the harbor of the small town of Alma. 





Alma, ooit een nederzetting bekend als Salmon River Settlement was ontstaan door de houthandel en de bouw van een zagerij aan de Upper Salmon River.

Alma, once a settlement known as Salmon River Settlement, was established through the lumber trade and the construction of a sawmill on the Upper Salmon River. 





Tegenwoordig zijn de meeste vroege (hout) industrieën verdwenen, hoewel de kreeft en sint-jakobsschelpvisserij nog steeds een belangrijke rol speelt in de economie van Alma.

Today, most of the early (timber) industries have disappeared, although lobster and scallop fishing still play an important role in Alma's economy. 





Toerisme is een groot onderdeel van de stad geworden dankzij de aanwezigheid van Fundy National Park. Ook staat Alma bekend om zijn vele visrestaurants. 

Tourism has become a big part of the city thanks to the presence of Fundy National Park. Alma is also known for its many seafood restaurants.
