Bezienswaardigheden / tips Moncton 2026:

1) Moncton: Moncton is gelegen in de provincie New Brunswick en is een tweetalige stad. Hier wordt zowel Frans als Engels gesproken. Moncton is de op een na grootste stad van New Brunswick en met zijn grote Franstalige bevolking het kloppend hart van L'Acadie, wat zichtbaar is aan het grote aantal restaurants, musea, concerten, theaters en festivals. Moncton is een goede uitvalsbasis voor Hopewell Rocks. De Hopewell Rocks liggen 38 km van Moncton en het is ongeveer een half uur rijden. Je vindt hier goede hotels en volop restaurants. Dit aanbod is veel minder in het plaatsje Alma een ander uitvalsbasis. Dus Moncton is een ideale plek om te verblijven. 

2) Riverfront Park: Riverfront Park is een mooie plek om te vertoeven. Zeker als je van natuur, wandelen en fietsen houdt. Het biedt een netwerk van wandel en fietspaden die Moncton verbinden met de naburige gemeenschappen Dieppe en Riverview. Het park is het hele jaar door toegankelijk en wordt vaak gebruikt voor festivals, evenementen en recreatieve activiteiten.

3) Monument gevallen RCMP agenten: In het Riverfront Park staat een indrukwekkend monument ter nagedachtenis aan drie RCMP politieagenten die in 2014 omkwamen tijdens een schietincident in Moncton. Het bestaat uit levensgrote bronzen beelden van de politie agenten Doug Larche, Dave Ross en Fabrice Gevauden. Bij het beeld van Doug Larche zijn persoonlijke elementen toegevoegd, zoals afdrukken van zijn hardloopschoenen en medailles, evenals balletschoenen van zijn dochters, die van dansen houden.

4) Tidal Bore Park: Vanaf Main Street aan het Tidal Bore Park kun je de getijden van de Petit Codiac River goed observeren. Tweemaal per dag vult en leegt die rivier, die door het modderbruine water ook wel 'Chocolate River' genoemd wordt. Bij vloed lijkt de rivier door het binnenstromende zeewater bergop te stromen in een 3 tot 60 cm hoge, chocolade kleurige golf. 

5) Moncton Museum: Het Moncton Museum is nu onderdeel van Resurgo Place. Het Museum is voornamelijk gewijd aan de geschiedenis van de stad, maar daarnaast zijn er ook kunsttentoonstellingen te zien. De gevel bij de ingang van het museum is het enige restant van de oude City Hall dat voor sloop werd behoed. Ernaast staat het gerestaureerde Free Meeting House uit 1821, het oudste gebouw van de stad.

6) Moncton Markt: De Moncton Markt is gelegen aan 120 Westmorland Street. Het ligt in het centrum van Moncton en je kunt hier elke zaterdag van 08.00 tot 14.00 terecht. Er is een mix van lokale producten te vinden maar ook verschillende sieraden, lederwaren, kunst en handwerk. Veel verkopers zijn lokale boeren, producenten en ambachtslieden en er hangt een aangename sfeer.

7) Irishtown Nature Park: Irishtown Nature Park ligt op ongeveer 6 km vanaf het centrum van Moncton. Het is een groot natuurpark (890 ha) en heeft diverse ecosystemen. Je vindt hier het Acadian forest, moerassen en groot stuwmeer (reservoir) dat oorspronkelijk dienst deed als watervoorziening voor de stad. Er zijn verharde paden (4.7 km) die geschikt zijn voor wandelen, joggen en fietsen. Daarnaast zijn er ook natuurlijke paden (6-7 km) voor wie wat uitdagender terrein zoekt. In de zomerperiode kun je hier ook kajakken. In de winterperiode kun je hier langlaufen en wandelen op sneeuwschoenen. Het park is open van zonsopgang tot zonsondergang.

1) Moncton: Moncton is located in the province of New Brunswick and is a bilingual city. Both French and English are spoken here. Moncton is New Brunswick's second-largest city and, with its large French-speaking population, the beating heart of L'Acadie, evident in the large number of restaurants, museums, concerts, theatres, and festivals. Moncton is a good base for exploring Hopewell Rocks. The Hopewell Rocks are located 23 miles (38 km) from Moncton and are about a half hour drive. You'll find good hotels and plenty of restaurants here. These options are much more limited in the town of Alma, another base. So Moncton is an ideal place to stay.   

2) Riverfront Park: Riverfront Park is a beautiful place to spend time, especially if you enjoy nature, hiking, and cycling. It offers a network of walking and cycling paths that connect Moncton with the neighboring communities of Dieppe and Riverview. The park is accessible year-round and is often used for festivals, events, and recreational activities. 

3) Fallen RCMP Officers Memorial: In Riverfront Park stands an impressive memorial commemorating three RCMP officers who were killed in a shooting incident in Moncton in 2014. It consists of life-size bronze statues of police officers Doug Larche, Dave Ross, and Fabrice Gevauden. Personal elements have been added to Doug Larche's sculpture, such as prints of his running shoes and medals, as well as ballet shoes from his daughters, who love to dance. 

4) Tidal Bore Park: From Main Street at Tidal Bore Park, you can easily observe the tides of the Petit Codiac River. Twice a day, the river, also known as the 'Chocolate River' because of its muddy brown water, fills and empties. At high tide, the river appears to flow uphill in a 3 to 60 cm high, chocolate-colored wave due to the incoming seawater. 

5) Moncton Museum: The Moncton Museum is now part of Resurgo Place. The museum is primarily dedicated to the city's history, but also hosts art exhibitions. The facade at the museum entrance is the only remnant of the old City Hall saved from demolition. Next to it stands the restored Free Meeting House, dating from 1821, the city's oldest building. 

6) Moncton Market: The Moncton Market is located at 120 Westmorland Street in downtown Moncton and is open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You'll find a mix of local products, as well as various jewelry, leather goods, arts, and crafts. Many vendors are local farmers, producers, and artisans, and the atmosphere is pleasant. 

7) Irishtown Nature Park: Irishtown Nature Park is located approximately 3.7 miles (6 km) from downtown Moncton. It is a large natural park (2200 acres) and has diverse ecosystems. Here you will find the Acadian forest, swamps and a large reservoir that originally served as a water supply for the city. There are paved trails (2,9 miles - 4.7 km) suitable for walking, jogging, and cycling. There are also natural trails (3-4 miles , 6-7 km) for those looking for more challenging terrain. During the summer you can also kayak here. In the winter, you can go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.

De Petitcodiac River is bekend vanwege het unieke natuurverschijnsel de Tidal Bore, waarbij het getijde van de Fundybaai een golf tegen de stroom in veroorzaakt die goed te zien is vanaf het park.

In het park in de Honour Garden staat een monument gewijd aan drie RCMP politie agenten die gesneuveld zijn tijdens hun dienst. Ze zijn neergeschoten door een schutter in het noorden van de stad.
