Bezienswaardigheden / tips 2025:

1) Grand Falls: Grand Falls is een tweetalige stad in New Brunswick, er wordt zowel Engels als Frans gesproken. De stad ligt aan de Saint John rivier, precies waar de rivier over een rotsrand naar beneden stort en een indrukwekkende waterval en kloof vormt. De stad ligt op een mooie natuurlijke locatie. Het is rustiger dan grotere toeristische centra dus minder massa-toerisme wat zeer aangenaam is als je op zoek bent naar rust. Er zijn voldoende voorzieningen, musea, restaurants en wandel en outdoor mogelijkheden. Het is een hele goede uitvalsbasis zeker als je een lange afstand moet overbruggen. 

2) Grand Falls Gorge en waterval: De Grand Falls Gorge en de waterval is de grote trekpleister van Grand Falls. De Saint John River stort zich hier ongeveer 23 meter naar beneden in een diepe kloof. De kloof is zo'n 1,5 km lang en op sommige plaatsen tot 70 meter diep. Er loopt een scenic walking trail (ongeveer 1,6 km) langs de rand van de kloof. Langs het pad vind je verschillende uitkijkplatforms met adembenemende uitzichten op de waterval, de dam en de rotswanden.

3) Malabeam Information Centre: Het Malabeam Information Centre ligt aan de zuidkant van de brug over de rivier. Het is het toeristische bezoekerscentrum van Grand Falls en tegelijk heeft het één van de beste uitkijkpunten over de Grand Falls Gorge en de waterval. Ook vind je hier kaarten, info, toiletten en souvenirs en informatie over hoe de kloof is ontstaan. Het Malabeam Information Centre is geopend van mei tot oktober. In de wintermaanden is het gebouw gesloten maar het uitzichtpunt blijft toegankelijk. Je kunt hier dan nog steeds parkeren en wandelen.

4) Zip Zag zipline: Voor degene die avorntuurlijk zijn ingesteld kunnen een ticket boeken voor de Zip Zag zipline. Dit is één van de populairste avontuurlijk activiteiten in Grand Falls. Je zweeft letterlijk boven de gorge en de waterval. Je begint aan de noordkant van de gorge en komt via de eerste lijn aan de zuidkant, waarna je weer terugkeert. Deze attractie is vooral bedoeld voor avontuurzoekers die een uniek uitzicht willen hebben. Een kaartje kost CAD 57,50 per persoon. 

5) Broadway: Broadway is de hoofdstraat van Grand Falls. Hier vind je vele winkels, cafés, restaurants, banken en andere voorzieningen. Het ligt op een korte loopafstand van de Grand Falls Gorge. Hier kun je eventueel ook de auto parkeren en door de straat lopen richting de waterval en de kloof. Ideaal als tussenstop en om eten in te slaan. ​​​​

1) Grand Falls: Grand Falls is a bilingual city in New Brunswick, with both English and French spoken. The city is situated on the Saint John River, right where the river plunges over a cliff, forming an impressive waterfall and gorge. The city is situated in a beautiful natural setting. It's quieter than larger tourist centers, so there's less mass tourism, which is very pleasant if you're looking for peace and quiet. There are plenty of amenities, museums, restaurants, and hiking and outdoor opportunities. It is a very good base, especially if you have to cover a long distance.

2) Grand Falls Gorge and falls: The Grand Falls Gorge and waterfall are the main attraction of Grand Falls. The Saint John River plunges approximately 75 feet (23 meters) into a deep gorge here. The gorge is about 0,9 miles (1.5 kilometers) long and up to 229 feet (70 meters) deep in some places. A scenic walking trail approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) runs along the edge of the gorge. Along the path, you'll find several viewing platforms with breathtaking views of the waterfall, the dam, and the rock walls. 

3) Malabeam Information Centre: The Malabeam Information Centre is located on the south side of the river bridge. It serves as Grand Falls' tourist visitor center and offers one of the best viewpoints of the Grand Falls Gorge and waterfall. You'll also find maps, information, restrooms, souvenirs, and information about the formation of the gorge. The Malabeam Information Centre is open from May to October. During the winter months, the building is closed, but the viewpoint remains accessible. You can still park and hike there.

4) Zip Zag zipline: For those who are adventurous can book a ticket for the Zip Zag zipline. This is one of the most popular adventure activities in Grand Falls. You literally float above the gorge and the waterfall. You start on the north side of the gorge and reach the south side via the first line, then return. This attraction is primarily designed for adventure seekers who want a unique view. A ticket costs CAD 57.50 per person. 

5) Broadway: Broadway is the main street in Grand Falls. Here you'll find many shops, cafes, restaurants, banks, and other amenities. It's a short walk from the Grand Falls Gorge. You can also park your car there and walk down the street towards the waterfall and the gorge. Ideal as a stopover and for stocking up on food.  





De gezelligste en drukste straat van Grand Falls is Broadway Boulevard. De straat ligt centraal in de stad, met veel winkels, cafés, historische gebouwen en vormt een onderdeel van het stadsleven (zie film).

De rivier Saint John River valt circa 23 meter naar beneden, waardoor de waterval haar naam "Grand Falls" kreeg. De Hydro-elektrische centrale van Grand Falls ligt direct aan de Saint John River, vlak bij de Grand Falls Gorge. Ze gebruikt de kracht van de waterval om elektriciteit op te wekken.

De Ron Turcotte Bridge overspant de Saint John River in Grand Falls en verbindt de oevers via de hoofdstraat (Broadway Boulevard). Het is een van de toegangsroutes naar het gebied van de waterval en de kloof.

The Ron Turcotte Bridge spans the Saint John River in Grand Falls, connecting the two banks via Broadway Boulevard. It is one of the access routes to the falls and gorge area.





De Saint John River heeft een lengte van ongeveer 700 km 9van de noordwestelijke grens van New Brunswick tot de Bay of Fundy). De rivier is een van de belangrijkste waterwegen in New Brunswick.

Langs de kloof vind je veel ecosystemen, bossen, wetlands en visrijke gebieden. De rivier herbergt forel, zalm en andere vissoorten. In Grand Falls is een groot recreatie gebied gemaakt met diverse uitkijkpunten.

Along the gorge, you'll find numerous ecosystems, forests, wetlands, and fish-rich areas. The river is home to trout, salmon, and other fish species. A large recreation area with several viewpoints has been created in Grand Falls.
