Bezienswaardigheden / tips Rivière-du-Loup 2025:

1) Rivière-du-Loup: Rivière-du-Loup is een kleine stad aan de zuidkust van de Saint Lawrence rivier in Quebec. De stad is vernoemd naar de nabijgelegen rivier, waarvan de naam in het Frans Wolfsrivier betekent. Rivière-du-Loup werd in 1673 gesticht als de seigneurie van Sieur Charles-Aubert de la Chesnaye. De gemeenschap werd in 1850 opgenomen als het dorp Fraserville, ter ere van de vroege Schotse kolonist Alexander Fraser, en werd in 1910 een stad. De stad kreeg in 1919 haar oorspronkelijke naam, Rivière-du-Loup, terug. Tussen 1850 en 1919 zag de stad een grote toename in de Engelstalige bevolking. De meesten van hen verlieten de regio in de jaren 50. Slechts 1% van de bevolking spreekt nog steeds Engels als eerste taal. De stad heeft in totaal ongeveer 225 restaurants, winkels, bars en terrassen, alles wat je nodig hebt voor een geweldige vakantie en verblijf. De stad biedt ook een groot aantal mogelijkheden voor buitenrecreatie, zoals wandelen, fietsen en walvissen spotten. Deze stad is zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken of voor een eventuele tussenstop. 

2) Parc des Chutes: Parc des Chutes ligt op een steenworp afstand van Lafontaine Street dat in het centrum ligt. Parc des Chutes is bekend om zijn 33 m hoge waterval en om zijn 9 km aan wandelpaden (trails) in een bosrijke omgeving. Twee bruggen bieden toegang tot beide oevers van de rivier. Eén bevindt zich onderaan de waterval en de andere bovenaan voor uitzicht op de waterval. Je bekijkt de waterval het beste vanaf een van de twee bruggen over de rivier. In de winterperiode worden de bevroren rotswanden gebruikt voor ijsklimactiviteiten. Het park is gratis en er zijn 2 parkeerplaatsen. 

3) Parc la Pointe: Parc la Pointe, gelegen op de oever van de majestueuze St. Lawrence-rivier, strekt zich uit over ongeveer vijf kilometer. Hier vind je een camping, uitkijkpunten, een fiets- en wandelpad van vijf kilometer, schommels voor kinderen, toiletgebouw en picknicktafels.Op het westelijke einde van de oever staat een Indian Head, een grote rots in de vorm van een gezicht. Tevens is het één van de beste plekken om de zonsondergang te bekijken. Ook dit park is gratis om te bezoeken. Er zijn gratis openbare parkeergelegenheden in rue Mackay voor de sector Côte-des-Bains, en een andere in rue de l'Ancrage voor de sector Battures.

4) Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent: Het uitstekende Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent is onder meer gewijd aan de vroege fotografie in Québec en toont historische zwart-witfoto's van de St-Laurent en zijn mensen. Het museum heeft een van de grootste collecties oude foto's in Canada opgebouwd: meer dan een dozijn fotografische collecties, met bijna 250.000 afbeeldingen. Dit belangrijke visuele erfgoed beslaat voornamelijk de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw. Een ticket voor een volwassenen kost CAD 8,50. 

5) Ferry naar Saint-Siméon: Vanaf Rivière-du-Loup vertrekt er een ferry naar Saint-Siméon. De rit duurt 1,5 uur voor een enkele reis en 3 uur heen en terug. Vanaf de ferry heb je een prachtig uitzicht op de Saint Lawrence Rivier en is er een mogelijkheid om beluga's (witte walvissen) te spotten die vaak meezwemmen met de ferry. De NM Trans St-Laurent biedt deze service aan, op het schip is een bar, restaurant en verschillende activiteiten aanwezig. 

6) Ferry naar Île aux Lièvres: De grootste attractie is deze voor de kust gelegen archipel. Het grootste eiland ligt midden in de St. Lawrence rivier waar je prima kunt wandelen. Beluga's, dwergvinvissen (een soort walvis die aanwezig is van eind mei tot begin oktober), bruinvissen en allerlei soorten zeevogels zijn hier aanwezig. Ook kun je hier overnachten in de charmante Auberge du Lièvre met zijn 9 charmante kamers. Wat de voorzieningen betreft, kun je hier ontspannen op het terras, kletsen of lezen in een kleine gemeenschappelijke lounge. Ook een absolute aanrader.

1) Rivière-du-Loup: Rivière-du-Loup is a small city on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec. The town is named after the nearby river, which means Wolf's River in French. Rivière-du-Loup was founded in 1673 as the seigneurie of Sieur Charles-Aubert de la Chesnaye. The community was incorporated in 1850 as the village of Fraserville, in honor of early Scottish settler Alexander Fraser, and became a town in 1910. The city regained its original name, Riviere-du-Loup, in 1919. Between 1850 and 1919 the city experienced a large increase in the English speaking population. Most of them left the region in the 50. Only 1% of the population still speaks English as their first language. The city has a total of approximately 225 restaurants, shops, bars and terraces, everything you need for a great holiday and stay. The city also offers a wide range of outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking, biking, and whale watching. This city is definitely worth a visit or for a possible stopover.

2) Parc des Chutes: Parc des Chutes is located such a few steps away from Lafontaine Street, which is in the city center. Parc des Chutes is known for its 108 ft (33 m) high waterfall and its 5,5 mile (9 km) of trails in a wooded area. Two bridges provide access to both sides of the river. One is at the bottom of the waterfall and the other at the top of the waterfall. The best way to view the waterfall is from one of the two bridges over the river. During the winter, the frozen rock walls are used for ice climbing activities. The park is free and there are 2 parking lots. 

3) Parc la Pointe: Located on the banks of the majestic St. Lawrence River, Parc la Pointe stretches for approximately three miles. Here you will find a camping site, viewpoints, a three miles (5 km) cycle and walking path, swings for children, toilet facilities and picnic tables. At the western end of the bank is an Indian Head, a large rock in the shape of a face. It is also one of the best places to watch the sunset. This park is also free to visit. There are free public car parks in rue Mackay for the Côte-des-Bains sector, and another in rue de l'Ancrage for the Battures sector.

4) Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent: The excellent Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent is dedicated, among other things, to early photography in Québec and displays historic black-and-white photographs of the St-Laurent and its people. The museum has built one of the largest collections of old photographs in Canada: more than a dozen photographic collections, with almost 250,000 images. This important visual heritage mainly covers the first half of the 20th century. An adult ticket costs CAD 8.50. 
 
5) Ferry to Saint-Siméon: From Rivière-du-Loup, a ferry departs to Saint-Siméon. The journey takes 1.5 hours one way and 3 hours round trip. From the ferry you have a beautiful view of the Saint Lawrence River and there is a possibility to spot belugas (white whales) that often swim along with the ferry. The NM Trans St-Laurent offers this service, on the ship there is a bar, restaurant and various activities. 

6) Ferry to Île aux Lièvres: The biggest attraction is this archipelago located off the coast. The largest island is located in the middle of the St. Lawrence River where you can enjoy walking. Beluga whales, minke whales (a type of whale present from late May to early October), porpoises and all kinds of sea birds are present here. You can also stay here in the charming Auberge du Lièvre with its 9 charming rooms. As for the amenities, here you can relax on the terrace, chat or read in a small shared lounge. Also highly recommended.

Rivière-du-Loup, is voor velen het ware Quebec. Een oude kerk verheft zich hoog boven de stad, die verder uit steile straatjes bestaat. De 18de-eeuwse huisjes zijn echt Frans van karakter. 

Rivière-du-Loup, is for many the real Quebec. An old church rises high above the town, which otherwise consists of steep streets. The 18th century houses are truly French in character.

Ook andere kleine watervallen kun je bewonderen vanaf een van de loopbruggen die over de rivier uitkijkt. Ook zijn er wandelpaden van 9 km lang uitgezet in het park en kun je hier heerlijk rondwandelen in de natuur.

Other small waterfalls can also be admired from one of the footbridges overlooking the river. There are also 5,5 mile (9 km) long hiking trails in the park, where you can enjoy walking around in nature. 





Gelegen in Rivière du Loup aan de oever van de St. Lawrence ligt het mooie Parc de la Pointe. Hier vind je een camping vele wandel en fietspaden en picknicktafels. Een prachtig park met vele vergezichten.
